I think it's probably a combination of both.

I use a program called Photomatix Pro for the tonal mapping, which gives me a lot more control than photoshop when it comes to getting the information out of my shadows and highlights. After I get a good base image out of that, I take the photos into photoshop and clean them up a bit. Trey over at [link] has some AMAZING HDR, and a fantastic tutorial as well =). I've also found that if in doubt, more pictures is better than less. I tend to use about 6-8 exposures for one image rather than 3-4.

Yeah I've only been currently working with 3 images. I've tried the trial version of photomatix and it was cool but i never got into it that much I'll have to try the trial again with some HDR and see how things go. Thanks for the feed back I'm going to check out that link and read up and hopefully i can get better at HDR images.

Thanks B&W is sometimes more colorful to me then full color.
